SMPS Colorado hosts the annual Marketing Excellence Awards competition to recognize excellence in marketing communications by professional services firms in the design and construction industry. The 2018 competition was open to both SMPS members and nonmembers employed in Colorado.




Christine King, FSMPS, CPSM
Business Development, The Weitz Company

Over the course of her career, Christine has provided marketing and business development leadership and support to architecture, engineering, and construction firms across Colorado. She is a Fellow in the Society for Marketing Professional Services (FSMPS), a Certified Professional Services Marketer (CPSM) and in 1997 received the Leonardo Award, the highest award given by SMPS/Colorado. Christine has been active with SMPS locally and nationally, serving twice as Colorado Chapter President (2000-2000/2004-2005) and as Chair for the SMPS Marketing Communications Awards in 2012. She has been in the A/E/C industry for more than 30 years and has published and presented to a number of industry associations including AIA and SMPS. Christine currently serves as Chapter Champion for the SMPS Colorado Chapter.


Stacy Stout, FSMPS, CPSM
Founding Principal, BRANDiac Strategies

With over 21 years of experience, Stacy’s proven expertise in marketing and branding has earned her the respect of the A/E/C community, both on a local and national level, making her an in-demand speaker and facilitator at industry events across the country. She is a Fellow in the Society for Marketing Professional Services (FSMPS), a Certified Professional Services Marketer (CPSM), was named Marketer of the Year in 2011, and in 2016 received the Leonardo Award, the highest recognition given by SMPS Colorado. Stacy earned her Bachelor of Science degree in International Business from the University of Colorado Denver and is a Director-at Large on the SMPS National Board.



Barbara Shuck, FSMPS, CPSM
Lieutenant Leadership, TankGirl Marketing

Barbara shares her energy, passion and 30+ years’ experience to teach, challenge, motivate, and inspire others. She has worked for general contracting, engineering, construction management, and architectural firms, and now shares her expertise to help clients win as a consultant with TankGirl Marketing. She is Past President of the Society for Marketing Professional Services (SMPS) and served as Secretary/Treasurer and Chair of the Build Business and Marketing Communications Awards committees. She is the current President of the SMPS Nebraska Chapter. She contributed to A/E/C Business Development: The Decade Ahead (SMPS Foundation), and has written and presented extensively at industry events.


Cheri Gerou, FAIA
Director of Capital Assets, University of Colorado System

Cheri is a licensed architect having practiced for over 30 years. Prior to her work at CU, she was the Manager of State Buildings Program with the Office of the State Architect, State of Colorado. She was appointed to and served on the Colorado State Licensing Board of Architects, Professional Engineers, and Professional Land Surveyors. Cheri has served as president of both the Denver and Colorado chapters of the American Institute of Architects and was elected to the College of Fellows of AIA in 2011. In 2009 Cheri was elected to the Colorado House of Representatives. During her six-year tenure in the state legislature, Gerou served as chair of the Appropriations Committee and chair of the Joint Budget committee. Cheri was the first woman in state history to chair the Joint Budget Committee as a member of the Colorado House of Representatives.


Craig S. Galati, AIA, FSMPS, CPSM
Principal, LGA, Inc.

Craig Galati is principal of LGA a consulting firm practicing sustainability, architecture, and sociology. With over 30 years’ experience as an architect and community outreach facilitator, Craig focuses on transformative strategic solutions resulting in organizational and operational excellence. He is past president of both the Las Vegas and Nevada chapters of the American Institute of Architects and Las Vegas Chapter of the Society for Marketing Professional Services. Craig is recipient of the “Silver Medal,” AIA Nevada’s highest individual award, honoring his lifelong contributions to the community and profession of architecture and is a Fellow in SMPS. Craig is the current SMPS Society Past President.


Michael Leccese, Executive Director
Colorado District Council of the Urban Land Institute (ULI Colorado)

In 2005, Michael Leccese became the first executive director of ULI Colorado, a 1,300-member District Council of the 40,000-member Urban Land Institute. Working with 15 committees, 250 ULI Colorado volunteers and a staff of three, Leccese works on 40+ ULI Colorado programs a year, including project tours, panel discussions, advisory services, leadership and mentorship programs, publications, and an awards program. In 2013, ULI gave ULI Colorado its first Impact Award as the District Council with the most positive community influence. Previously Michael worked as a communications consultant, newspaper reporter, magazine editor, and book author. He has served on civic task forces, boards and committees in Boulder, Denver, and Washington, D.C.; and helped launch the region-wide Neighborhood Eco Pass program with RTD Denver in 1995.


Nancy Usrey FSMPS, CPSM
HNTB Corporation, SMPS President 2017-2018

A talented, multi-faceted professional with over 30 years in the industry, Nancy guides A/E/C firms to successful development and implementation of marketing and sales initiatives. She was recruited by HNTB in 2008 to help the national transportation firm leverage its experience in the design-build marketplace into a major component of their portfolio. Prior to HNTB, Nancy was a recognized marketing consultant to AEC firms, known for her ability to guide firms to successful development and implementation of marketing and sales initiatives. Nancy is a former SMPS Chapter President, a past President of the SMPS Foundation, and current President of the Society. She was a member of the inaugural class of SMPS University and one of the subject matter experts involved in developing Markendium, the SMPS Body of Knowledge.


N. Anthony Steinhardt, III, FSMPS, CPSM
Principal/Vice President, RATIO Design

As one of RATIO’s principals, Tony provides leadership relative to strategic client development, and identifies and cultivates opportunities for diversification with the education, community, life sciences, workplace, lifestyle, and cultural marketplaces nationally – all while facing a consistently challenging business landscape. He is a former president of the SMPS Indiana chapter, a former SMPS board member, became as SMPS fellow in 2007, and is a SMPS Marketing Communications Award winner in the brochure, direct mail, and website categories. Tony enjoys sharing and mentoring others in the industry and has spoken at a number of regional and national conferences, including Build Business, and currently is an instructor for the SMPS program, “The Basics of Business Development in the A/E/C Marketplace."
