Grab your hard hats and join SMPS Colorado for an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo’s exciting new Giraffe Exhibit! This isn’t your average construction site visit—led by the General Contractor, Architect, and key trade partners, you’ll get an insider look at the $40 million expansion that’s transforming how guests and giraffes connect. From the towering new giraffe barn to the expanded outdoor habitat and interactive feeding zones, you’ll see how this project is raising the bar for animal care and guest experience.

Expect mountain views, big ideas, and even bigger giraffe footprints. And here’s something wild: the roof over the new giraffe barn is the first of its kind in North America! Using techniques developed in Europe specifically for giraffe exhibits, this ETFE roof lets in tons of natural light while keeping the space climate-controlled and energy-efficient. You’ll also get a peek at the new admissions plaza, café, and multi-level gift shop—all built into the side of Cheyenne Mountain. It’s a rare chance to see how thoughtful design and construction are coming together to create a world-class experience for both giraffes and guests. It’s a going to be a peek into one of the zoo’s most ambitious projects before it opens to the public in 2026.

Included in the evening will be plenty of time for networking, with happy hour hosted in the Safari Lodge overlooking the new giraffe exhibit, as well as giraffe feeding, sponsored by iiCON Construction. Mingle with fellow AEC professionals, sip on something refreshing, and soak in the views while celebrating the incredible work happening at Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. Please wear appropriate clothing, including closed-toe shoes and personal protective equipment (PPE), to enter the construction site. iiCON will have a limited number of safety vests and hard hats available, but attendees are encouraged to bring their own PPE for the tour.
