SMPS Colorado will host select leaders from some of Colorado’s top campuses to discuss what’s on the top of their lists of needs and project priorities for the upcoming years. Learn about long term university goals and shifting trends in design and construction on Higher Education Campuses. Our distinguished panel of speakers will also provide insight on their procurement processes and what firms can do to better position themselves for upcoming opportunities. Join SMPS Colorado for this interactive discussion and opportunity to connect with key influencers in education.

Julianne Scherer is an influential leader at HDR with almost 30 years of experience. Community-driven projects intersect with her desire to positively impact the lives of others, the individuals she works with daily and clients that embody diversity and unity to create a vision for the greater good.  She is an active member of AIA Colorado, for which she has served as a 2017 AIA10 jury chair, 2018 & 2019 AIA Design Awards committee chair, 2020 AIA Design & Practice Conference chair and currently as the Denver Director.

Michael Millsapps
Executive Director of Facilities and Operations
Aims Community College

Michael Millsapps is the Executive Director of facilities and operations at Aims Community College. He has served on the executive board of the rocky mountain chapter of the International Facilities Management Association (IFMA), rocky mountain chapter of the Association of Physical Plant Administrators (APPA) and a founding board member of the Colorado Chapter of the Association of Physical Plant Administrators (COAPPA). Michael has been a subject matter expert for the Public Works Working Group (PWWG) for the federal government and most recently a subject matter expert on the rewrite of the certified facilities manager exam for IFMA.

Associate Vice Chancellor for Campus Planning
University of Colorado Colorado Springs

Kent is a Professional Engineer with 15 years’ experience in higher education as a Facilities Director and Associate Vice Chancellor. He is currently serving as Associate Vice Chancellor for Campus Planning at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs.

Rachel StoneCypher
Director of Capital Projects and Planning
University of Denver

As the Director of Capital Projects and Planning at the University of Denver (DU), Rachel oversees the planning and project execution of small to large design and construction projects, as well as a team of architects and project managers. Rachel comes to DU after 7 years as a capital project manager at the University of Colorado Boulder, working on over 240 projects ranging from deferred maintenance to a LEED Platinum certified Athletics Complex project. Additionally, she has served as an active duty officer in the U.S Coast Guard for ten years where she took on numerous roles such as a shipboard engineering officer, area planner, and construction manager for military facilities along the east and west coasts.
