Mentorship is one of those words that everyone agrees is important, yet its true impact is often underestimated until you experience it firsthand. In our industry, where relationships, strategy, confidence, and timing matter just as much as technical skill, mentorship can be the difference between feeling stuck and feeling empowered.

At its core, mentorship is about people showing up for one another with intention. It’s about learning not just what to do, but how to think, lead, and grow together.

Why Mentorship Truly Matters

Mentorship isn’t about having all the answers. And trust me, mentors do not know everything either. However, mentors most likely have had more experience dealing with similar situations. It’s about creating space for honest conversations, shared experiences, and meaningful growth. When done well, mentorship:

And here’s the often-overlooked truth, mentorship is not one-directional. Mentors grow just as much as protégés, sometimes more, by reflecting, listening, and leading with purpose.

The SMPS Colorado One2One Mentorship Group was created with this belief in mind. It’s intentionally designed for meaningful, one-on-one connections that go deeper than surface-level guidance. Through structured sessions, thoughtful themes, and genuine dialogue, participants build relationships that last well beyond the program itself.

As Chair of the One2One Mentorship Group this year, I will have the privilege of seeing these connections form in real time, watching confidence grow, ideas spark, and careers evolve. It’s energizing, inspiring, and a powerful reminder of why mentorship matters so much.

A Sneak Peek: Lessons We Can Learn from Dr. Seuss

This year, we’re adding a little whimsy and a lot of wisdom to our journey. Our theme is “Lessons We Can Learn from Dr. Seuss.”

Through this creative lens, we’ll explore mentorship topics such as:

• Embracing individuality and finding your voice
• Navigating change with confidence and curiosity
• Building your personal brand (without letting your inner Grinch steal it)
• The importance of relationships, resilience, and leadership

Dr. Seuss reminds us that learning doesn’t have to be boring to be impactful and that some of the most powerful lessons are also the most memorable. Expect thoughtful conversations, engaging sessions, and a mentorship experience that is both meaningful and fun.
